Lancaster University offers over 280 undergraduate degree programmes and a wide range of Masters and PhD opportunities. It also offers pre-study programmes such as English language and foundation courses.

Lancaster is also highly ranked in international league tables. It is 132nd in the QS World University Rankings 2022, and =122nd in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022.

Lancaster has also won two major awards from The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide. It was named the International University of the Year in the 2020 guide, and the University of the Year in the 2018 edition.

The 2021 National Student Survey (NSS) revealed that 83% of Lancaster University students are satisfied overall with the quality of their course, compared with a national average of 75%.

Research

Lancaster University’s REF 2021 results confirm their position as delivering world-quality research. 91% of research was rated as ‘internationally excellent’ or ‘world leading’ with 46% rated in the highest category of 4*.

Lancaster is 21st overall out of 157 institutions ranked by Times Higher Education. This places Lancaster above eight Russell Group universities for research quality.

Location

Lancaster University is situated in 560 acres of parkland, just 3 miles to the south of the centre of the city of Lancaster in the United Kingdom. Just 1 hour from Manchester or Liverpool or 2.5 hours from London, Glasgow or Edinburgh, Lancaster is well connected and easy to get to.

Campus

Lancaster University campus is situated just a short bus ride south of Lancaster city centre. The campus is the complete setting for your life and your studies, with sports facilities, shops, places to relax and socialise and study spaces to suit your mood.

Collegiate system

Lancaster is proud to be one of only a handful of UK universities to have a collegiate system. There are nine colleges in total, and every student belongs to a college, whether you live on campus or choose to commute. The colleges are individual, inclusive and diverse communities, offering a range of facilities and services. Your college is where your first friendships are formed, and the first place to go for any support.

Please note that all students pay a small college membership fee, which supports the running of college events and activities.

Accommodation

Lancaster’s accommodation has been named ‘Best University Halls’ eight times since 2010 at the UK’s prestigious National Student Housing Awards. They offer almost 7000 bed spaces for undergraduates, postgraduates and families. For full details, please visit the university’s accommodation webpage.

If you do not meet the English requirements for your chosen academic course, you may still be able to study at Lancaster if you complete an English language course before you start your studies. Please visit the university website for information on their pre-sessional English language courses.
