About

The University of Greenwich is a public university in the UK. It has two campuses in south-east London (Old Royal Naval College and Avery Hill) and one in Kent (Medway Campus).

The university traces its roots to 1890 and the founding of Woolwich Polytechnic. Over the years, it has established itself as a place of research and academic achievement – a reputation reinforced by its high teaching standards and the ways in which its programmes respond directly to the changing needs of industry.

Degrees are designed with industry boards to ensure that graduates are equipped with the cutting-edge skills and knowledge they need to secure a position in their chosen profession.

Why choose the University of Greenwich?

  • The university’s staff include a winner of the Times Higher Education Most Innovative Teacher Award and several National Teaching Fellows, a status which recognises exceptional teaching;
  • Awarded first place in the postgraduate category, and shortlisted for three further categories, for the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2022, a leading higher education awards ceremony based solely on student choice;
  • Positioned in the 101-200 bracket in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2022.

Research

Many of the University of Greenwich’s research areas have been judged as having carried out research of the very highest quality – world leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour. A research breakthrough at the university’s Natural Resources Institute, for example, has been named as one of the ten most important discoveries to be made at a UK university over the past 60 years. A poll of UK academics recognised the institute’s work controlling the tsetse fly in Africa, which is helping to combat the fatal disease sleeping sickness.

According to the latest Research Excellence Framework (2021), over 80% of the outputs assessed in two submissions – English Language and Literature and Engineering – were scored as internationally excellent and world-leading. These were the highest scores across the 12 sole submissions made by the university.

International students

There is an International Student Advice Service, dedicated to providing international students with information, advice and guidance throughout their studies.

Location

All three of the university’s campuses benefit from excellent transport links. Greenwich and Avery Hill Campuses are well connected by bus and train to central London, and Medway Campus is just a 45-minute train journey away. Once you are in the capital, the whole country is open to you through high-speed train links to virtually all the major cities.

Greenwich one of the few London universities that has everything you need in one place: teaching, social, sports and living spaces are all on campus or close by.

Sustainability

The University of Greenwich proudly applies sustainable development across all of its activities. To find out more, please visit the university website.
